West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. said it has earmarked P20.65 billion for a two-year spending plan to reduce its non-revenue water (NRW) component to 25 percent by 2027.

The company’s NRW level as of the end of the first quarter this year stood at 36.2 percent, Maynilad central NRW head Ryan Jamora said.

NRW refers to water that is produced but not billed to customers due to various types of losses such as underground leaks or busted pipes, illegal connections and metering errors; and consumption caused by firefighting needs, street flushing and public taps.

In a briefing on Wednesday, Maynilad said the new amount for NRW reduction by 2027 is part of the P31.46 capex allocation program to reduce NRW dating back to 2023.

Jamora said that for the end of the year, their target is to cut NRW to 34 percent from 39.9 percent in 2024

“Our NRW reduction program is a sustained and a multi-year commitment. Replacing aging pipelines is a critical part of this strategy, as it not only reduces water losses but also improves pressure and reliability for our customers,” Jamora said.

“It is a challenging goal, but we are leveraging advanced technologies and the expertise of our skilled teams to sustain water loss recovery across our network,” Jamora said.

“Our teams are working 24×7 to detect and repair leaks across the West Zone… Every leak we fix helps recover water that would otherwise be lost, contributing to improved service reliability for our customers,” he added.

Maynilad said that its leak detection and repair activities are conducted using advanced technologies such as correlators, acoustic loggers, and ground microphones, deployed across its growing network of district metered areas.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base serving the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon as well as the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite province.
