West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. said it is enhancing its fire prevention and emergency response measures to support communities and firefighting operations in preparation for the dry season.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday that its 4,500 fire hydrants across its 7,915-kilometer distribution network are fully functioning through regular inspections and maintenance.

Maynilad said it is providing the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and local government units with hydrant location maps.

It added it is also monitoring water pressure at fire sites and is maintaining direct communication lines with emergency responders.

The company said it conducts joint inspections with the BFP, distributes hydrant keys to firefighters for quick access, and deploys water tankers to areas requiring additional supply.

Maynilad has introduced fire trailers designed for narrow streets and alleys where fire trucks cannot enter as among the challenges of firefighting is entry to congested areas.

The company previously donated five 1,000-liter fire trailers to communities in Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Pasay and Imus, with more units set for distribution this year. Each trailer is equipped with a 20-meter adjustable hose, solar-powered lights and a five-horsepower pump capable of projecting water up to 70 feet, reaching up to the seventh floor of a building.

Through memoranda of understanding, Maynilad gives the BFP access to treated wastewater for firefighting and optimize water resources by reducing reliance on potable water while ensuring effective firefighting operations.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base serving the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon as well as the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province.
