West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is stepping up leak repair and pipe replacement activities as part of measures to conserve water for the summer season.
Maynilad said for the first quarter , it has repaired around 9,000 pipe leaks across its entire concession area, making possible the recovery of some 36 million liters per day which is enough to meet the needs of some 36,000 households.
The company noted most of the pipe leaks repaired this year were in Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Manila and Caloocan. Likewise, old pipes along Maria Clara, Algeciras, Legarda and Tomas Mapua streets in Manila and in various locations in Quezon City, Caloocan, Muntinlupa and Parañaque are also being rehabilitated.
Maynilad said it is also managing pressure in the pipelines so the water supply can be maximized and more water will be made available for customers’ use, particularly during hours of peak demand.
It added it is also reactivating several deep wells and constructing four modular treatment plants that will draw water from nearby rivers and convert it to drinking water.
