Maynilad Water Services Inc. will issue a rebate totaling P27.48 million to customers affected by service interruptions, according to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO).

The MWSS-RO said customers who were deprived of uninterrupted 24-hour water service from December 2022 to January 2023 in the Putatan Water Treatment Plant (PWTP) supply zone are set to benefit from the rebate.

Areas under the PWTP supply zone include Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa as well as Bacoor, Imus, Cavite, Rosario and Noveleta in Cavite.

Lee Robert Britanico, MWSS-RO officer-in-charge, said in a briefing yesterday the regulatory body will hold a public information drive on January 31 on the nature, scope and other details of the rebate.

“The rebate will likely be implemented by February, to reflect in the next water bill,” Britanico said.

The MWSS-RO said as of yesterday, the PWTP was operating normally.

In a separate statement, Maynilad said it has “agreed” with the MWSS-RO on the rebate after the regulatory body reviewed the cause of the service interruptions and the affected areas.

Maynilad said since the individual rebate amount depends on the experience in specific areas, the MWSS-RO is the one capable of providing such information.

“To date, maintenance activities at our water treatment plants in Putatan, Muntinlupa, are ongoing. We are working round-the-clock to fully restore water service at the soonest possible time. Our mobile water tankers continue to do the rounds of affected areas meantime,” Maynilad added. -Jed Macapagal
