President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday inspected the upgrades and improvements at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City under the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC).
The president was accompanied by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration head Patricia Caunan, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eric Jose Ines, and NNIC general manager Angelito Alvarez during the inspection of the facility.
Marcos had also been briefed on the series of improvements that had been undertaken since the airport’s operations were turned over to the NNIC in September last year, as well as on the ongoing upgrades and planned projects including possible expansion of NAIA 3, to accommodate more passengers and provide more comfortable travel experience.
Marcos said he has heard of the improvements and wanted to see for himself the progress that the NNIC has made as well as determine what other measures could still be done especially to hasten services at the airport including the immigration clearance.
He said measures such as the issuance of an overseas Filipino workers identification card and adoption of facial recognition are being considered.
“This is the biggest PPP that the country has ever done and by the way it was the fastest that we ever we were able to do because it was, I pushed it very, very hard and it is good that we have partners like Chairman Ramon Ang who are ready to help,” the president said in mixed English and Filipino.
The NNIC, composed of San Miguel Holdings Corp. (SMC), RMM Asian Logistics, Inc., RLW Aviation Development, Inc. and Incheon International Airport Corp., bagged the multibillion public-private partnership project to operate and rehabilitate NAIA.
