MANILA Water Co. Inc. said its wastewater recovery project at the Cardona treatment plant in Rizal rovince is scheduled to be completed by September this year.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said the P13 million initiative will enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs and minimize the risk of brine pipe breakage in the facility.

The project will also involve the installation of a 200-millimeter (mm) diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline with concrete encasement, along with a 110-mm diameter HDPE pipeline spanning six linear meters, Manila Water added.

The company said these pipelines will transport treated brine wastewater within the facility, which will then be reused for water treatment processes.

The project will treat and reuse more than 6 million liters per day (MLD) of brine wastewater.

Manila Water also said the project will install four units of  7.5 kilowatts submersible pumps, each capable of handling 1.5 MLD of brine wastewater, new wastewater recovery pumps, valves, and other essential equipment that are crucial for the efficient handling and transportation of brine wastewater during treatment.

To further optimize plant operations, the project will also install new molded case circuit breakers, a local control panel, and a new motor control center for the new pumps, the company added.

Additionally, control and automation devices will be installed to enable real-time monitoring, control, and data collection for enhanced operational efficiency.

“The wastewater recovery project at the Cardona treatment plant does not only enhance our efficiency and reduces costs but also plays a crucial role in minimizing environmental impact. We are proud to take this step towards sustainable wastewater management and look forward to the positive outcomes it will bring,” Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water communication affairs group director, said.
