THE LPG Marketers Association Inc. (LPGMA) is seeking clarifications from the Department of Energy (DOE) as the guidelines issued by the government to assure continuous fuel supply has not included (liquefied petroleum gas) LPG products.
The group said the memorandum issued by the DOE has specifically provided guidelines for the movement of fuel and petroleum products which are considered basic necessities and vital to everyday life.
LPGMA said LPG is also considered as a basic necessity under the Republic Act No. 10623.
The group appealed to the DOE to issue a supplemental memorandum that will allow the movement of LPG products to assure its unimpeded delivery to households and industries.
The DOE did not issue a supplemental memorandum but noted COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) specifically allowed the travel of power and energy-related items including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, biofuels, LPG, biomass, coal and natural gas.
“We need those energy products and services in our fight against COVID-19. Energy provides the services required by our food, communication, and medical industries,” the agency said.
A price freeze for LPG and kerosene products are already in effect for areas declared under a state of calamity.
