WITH the enhanced community quarantine in place, demand for delivery services has increased as these offer a convenient way to transfer goods, medicines, documents and donations.
Delivery services via motorcycles have particularly been the mode of choice for faster pick-up and drop-off. These services also provide sustainable livelihood for the bikers of the providers.
Lalamove
Lalamove Philippines, Asia’s leading on-demand delivery and logistics service provider that originated in Hong Kong has seen an increase in the volume of deliveries since the start of community quarantine last week.
“There has been definitely an increase of demand since the start of the crisis but we urge our users to only use delivery services when truly needed as we also help with the donations to our frontliners in hospitals, NGOs (non-government organization) , government and private groups,” said Dannah Majarocon, Lalamove Philippines managing director.
With the enhanced community quarantine in place, citizens of Metro Manila heavily rely on same-day delivery services like Lalamove.
“We are striving to cater to all the delivery needs of our community members, while imposing strict measures on health and hygiene such as the no-contact policy and servicing the deliveries of essential items to ensure the safety of both our users and partner drivers,” Majarocon told Malaya Business Insight via email.
Grab
As accessing daily essentials is a challenge, Grab Philippines through its GrabFood and GrabExpress services continues to deliver everyday essential needs such as food, medicine, and others, while providing livelihood opportunities for delivery-partners.
However, Grab has yet to see any growth trend for delivery volume.
“We do not see a clear trend in delivery bookings at the moment. Given the public health situation we are currently at, numbers are volatile and inconclusive.” Grab said.
To aid in social distancing, Grab introduced a new Contactless Delivery Option that limits contact between consumers and delivery-partners. Consumers are encouraged to pay using cashless methods and opt for contactless delivery by informing delivery-partners to drop off the order outside the door or at specific locations using GrabChat.
Grab also encourages merchant and delivery partners to set up contactless takeaway stations for delivery-partners so that they can pick up orders without coming into contact with restaurant staff. Merchants are also encouraged to conduct regular temperature checks, increase cleaning frequency of food and preparation areas and delivery-bags, and more.
