Aboitiz Power Corp. subsidiary Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables Inc. (APX) entered into a joint venture with Upgrade Energy Philippines Inc. (UGEP) to pursue rooftop solar projects in the Philippines.

The 50-50 joint venture will develop and operate distributed solar systems to the commercial and industrial businesses under AboitizPower Retail group’s portfolio.

Ruth Yu-Owen, UGEP president and chief executive officer, said the partnership also enables decentralized generation in assisting businesses to explore and venture into more sustainable energy solutions.

UGEP is involved in solar and other renewable energy project development as well as on engineering, procurement and construction.

James Byron Yu, Aboitiz Power first vice president and head of retail, said the partnership expects to produce solar projects that are “carefully designed to meet the unique requirements of power consumers.”

“Through our joint venture with UGEP, we aim to leverage their capabilities to deliver on those needs, beyond the sale of retail electricity, encompassing development, construction and long-term operations and maintenance aspects of solar projects,” Yu said. -Jed Macapagal
