JAPANESE multinational manufacturer of mechanical components and electronic devices MinebeaMitsumi said its initiatives in the Philippines will include the expansion of its manufacturing facilities and building a Global Support Center (GSC), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said on Thursday.

MinebeaMitsumi operates facilities in Batangas and Cebu for the production of motors used in printers and copiers, disk drives and drones.

The DTI in a statement said Secretary Cristina Roque met with the leadership of MinebeaMitsumi Inc. on Tuesday at the company’s Tokyo headquarters, during which the company committed to train engineers and professionals for deployment to international operations under the GSC.

Roque and MinebeaMitsumi Chairman Yoshihisa Kainuma also discussed how the company’s state-of-the-art lighting systems–SALIOT (Smart Adjustable Light for the Internet of Things)–can support the Philippines’ drive toward digital innovation and energy efficiency.

The DTI did not disclose further details of the talks.

It only said it continues to work closely with Japanese partners, such as MinebeaMitsumi, to enhance the Philippines’ role as a hub for precision manufacturing, smart technologies, and high-value innovation.

Moving forward, the DTI said it will continue holding technical and strategic dialogues with MinebeaMitsumi.
