Japanese company Advantec Co. Ltd. through its local unit is set to conduct feasibility studies for potential projects utilizing its solar energy technologies in the country.
Advantec Philippines Inc. and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) are set to sign today a memorandum of understanding on the project which is done under the auspices of the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) public-private partnership (PPP) promotion program to address power supply and climate change challenges while supporting private sector development, primarily through solar energy solutions.
JICA said the study covers the National Capital Region and surrounding areas as well as Mactan, Cebu between June 2023 and January 2024.
The study will primarily to look into developing renewable energy supply business utilizing photovoltaic (PV) systems and storage batteries in the Philippines, where chronic power shortage, prolonged power outages due to natural disasters, and high electricity rates have become serious problems.
Advantec Philippines is responsible for local surveying, design, procurement, construction, undertakes maintenance as needed and caters to industrial parks, public facilities of local governments (hospitals, offices, schools, etc.).
The research project aims to enhance the resilience of power infrastructure along with contributing to the reduction of COz emission in the Philippines.
