The National Home Mortgage Finance Corp. (NHMFC) said it has signed a Green Covenant with Uanjelle Land Inc. and Stagno Properties represented by former Isabela Governor Faustino Dy Jr. for the participation of the Cathedral Village housing project in NHMFC’s Building Eligible Resilient Dwelling for Everyone (BERDE) Program.

The BERDE Program offers interest rates as low as 3 percent of up to 30 years to green-certified housing projects.

Apart from significant savings in energy costs, the BERDE Program promotes savings in mortgage loans for homebuyers, which allow for overall improved financial capability for homebuyers thus increasing the quality of life for all.

NHMFC President Renato Tobias reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to promoting full renewable energy integration in government-supported housing projects. He also outlined key upcoming developments under this initiative.

“These renewable energy systems create new opportunities in construction, technology, and financial services. The green housing units in Isabela will incorporate energy-efficient solar panels and micro grid systems. These innovations will translate into zero energy bills for homeowners for the first five years, significantly improving long-term affordability,” Tobias said.

Tobias also said through the non-government organization Water.org, Isabeleños will have access to safe and clean water and sanitation facilities — a key component of creating healthier, more sustainable communities.

The project, with  70-percent open space, contracted the solar and microgrid systems of GBF New Power Group and safe water and sanitation access engaged by Water.org, allowing  13,800 unit buyers to further enjoy additional benefits such as zero utility bills for five years.

“NHMFC will be able to securitize these green home mortgages into sustainable or green bonds, unlocking greater financial liquidity and supporting the continuous rollout of green housing nationwide,” Tobias added.

Tobias also expressed his gratitude to Dy, Uanjelle Land and Water.org for their efforts in turning the Isabeleños’ dreams into reality.
