Manila Water Co. Inc. aims to further improve its services in Rizal Province with the scheduled completion of the first phase of the East Bay water treatment plant (WTP) next year.
“Components of the P2.7 billion WTP project include an 8-million liter capacity reservoir, an intake structure, pumping station and water treatment plant using dissolved air flotation system, multi-media and granular activated carbon filters as well as reverse osmosis system,” said Byder Nangit, Manila Water senior project manager, in a statement.
The company said East Bay WTP will draw water supply from the eastern part of Laguna Lake which is considered as the cleanest portion of the Laguna Lake.
The project will need the cooperation and buy-in of key stakeholders to be completed and operational by April 2023.
Once operational, the first phase of the East Bay WTP can provide 50 million liters per day of treated water to 390,000 population in the towns of Jala-Jala, Pililla, Baras, Cardona, Morong and Binangonan.
To complement the WTP, two submarine pipelaying projects are also being implemented with the first pipe system connecting Morong to Cardona 50 percent complete. Another high-density polyethylene pipe system connecting Pililla to Morong has started construction.
The submarine transmission lines will convey treated water from the WTP to the distribution system to safely reach customers once the facilities begin operations.
“Manila Water has been regularly coordinating with the relevant local government units and the Laguna Lake Development Authority to ensure that the project complies with all necessary laws and regulations and is implemented upholding strict safety protocols,” added Badet Del Rosario, Manila Water’s project management group-stakeholder engagement department head. – Jed Macapagal
