Ayala Corp. unit Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) and California-based Zero Motorcycles on Wednesday inaugurated their electric motorcycle assembly line in Biñan, Laguna.
The IMI-Zero venture is seen to boost electric vehicle production in the country.
It will also export to Zero’s Europe and Asian markets and will support US demand for sub assemblies.
The Laguna plant, which will also manufacture EV parts including batteries and motors, will be a pioneering activity in the Philippines. IMI, a leading global technology and manufacturing solutions expert, and Zero Motorcycles is a world leader in electric motorcycles with over 15 years of experience.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the continuing efforts of the government to position the Philippines as a hub for innovation- and sustainability-driven industries.
The inauguration heralds the start of the commercial operation of the venture which eyes an annual output of 18,000 units.
With a projected annual revenue of $65 million and a total investment of $250 million over the next five years, the venture will generate at least 200 new jobs for Filipinos.
