Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) said it has stopped the operation of its Shenzhen facility in China after the city imposed a lockdown starting March 14 due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“In compliance with China’s Government COVID Zero strategy, all non-essential activities have been halted until March 20, 2022 or until further notice,” the company said.

The halt in operation will affect approximately 10 percent of the company’s operation revenue-wise since it contributes the same percentage of group topline.

“Local management teams are coordinating with government agencies to safeguard the health and welfare of all its IMI employees. Close coordination with affected customers and government units concerned is ongoing to help mitigate its negative impact on the business,” it said.

This is the first time the company announced a new stoppage in operation in its China facilities since 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and restrictions were eased in the area.

In February 2020, IMI announced it suspended works in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Sichuan and Jiangsu facilities as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in China.

IMI said the decision is to follow local government notices to extend the holidays so the government can put in place measures to contain the virus. – Ruelle Castro
