International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) said it has increased its stake in its Congo operation to 62 percent after acquiring an additional 10 percent from a partner.
The company in a statement said unit ICTSI Africa B.V. (IABV) has “concluded the acquisition of an additional 10 percent stake in International Container Terminal Services Inc.-IDR Congo (IDRC)” in Matadi Democratic Republic of Congo from La Societe D’Investissement et de Placement SARL.
The Matadi Gateway Terminal is a joint venture between ICTSI and La Société De Gestion Immobilií¨re Lengo (SIMOBILE) where the two in 2014 developed a container and general cargo terminal on the bank of the Congo River at Mbengu Matadi..
Matadi is the most important port on the Congo River, approximately 150 kilometers upstream from the Atlantic. It is is a major import and export point for the whole of Congo.
It is the only terminal in DRC with mobile harbor cranes allowing gearless vessels to operate, and empty depot services accepting empty containers before vessel arrival
In late 2019, the group initiated the second phase expansion of Matadi Gateway Terminal which will more than doubled its annual throughput capacity to 400,000 twenty-foot equivalent units..
