International Container Terminal Services Inc. said its Croatia operation now has a regular train connection with Paskov in the Czech Republic.
Launched in May, the Maersk rail service runs up to two times per week. The rail service is operated by ÄŒD Cargo Adria, a subsidiary of Czech freight operator ÄŒD Cargo, the largest railway transport provider in Czech Republic and one of the major rail operators on the Trans-European Network corridor including Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Poland and now expanding in Croatia.
Emmanuel Papagiannakis, chief executive officer of ICTSI unit Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), said the rail service gives the company a fast access to the Czech Republic, one of its most important markets in Europe.
“Currently, there are multiple regular weekly block trains between Rijeka, Serbia, Bosnia and Hungary with extensions for Slovakia. We appreciate that Maersk has launched this initiative adding direct rail services to Czechia. This also confirms the growing significance of AGCT as a gateway for Central Europe and Southeast Europe,” Papagiannakis said.
In March 2011, ICTSI forged a 30-year strategic partnership with Luka Rijeka D.D. for the operation, management, and development of AGCT at the Port of Rijeka, Croatia’s main seaport.
