International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) said its Buenos Aires, Argentina operation, TecPlata SA, has been integrated into Ocean Network Express’ (ONE) New East Coast South America Express 2 (SX2) service, which links key ports in the Far East with major hubs on the East Coast of South America.
“TecPlata connects to the SX2 network via the River Plate Express (RPX), a dedicated feeder service linking Argentina and Uruguay through Rio Grande,” the company said.
ONE is set to launch the RPX service in May 2025.
“With a direct stopover in Pusan, the SX2 service facilitates seamless trade flow to and from South Korea, northern China, and Japan. The RPX’s exclusive route through Río Grande, Zárate, and TecPlata enhances distribution and ensures faster transit times. With fewer port calls, the optimized itinerary improves schedule reliability,” the company added.
TecPlata CEO Juan Pablo Trujillo said the inclusion of the terminal in the new service that expands access to Asian markets “reaffirms its leadership in Argentina’s port sector by combining cutting-edge technology, operational efficiency and sustainability.”
“TecPlata remains committed to operational excellence and developing new services that support customers’ success in an evolving global market,” he said.
“As Argentina’s first carbon-neutral and BASC-certified port – and the first terminal certified to handle berthing maneuvers for vessels up to 366 meters long — TecPlata continues to drive safe, innovative, and globally aligned logistics solutions,” Trujillo added.
In October 2008, the Consorcio de Gestion del Puerto La Plata gave TecPlata a 30-year concession to build and operate an all-purpose port terminal in the greater Buenos Aires area.
With an investment of $450 million, TecPlata is Argentina’s most modern container terminal with an initial capacity of 450,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), extendable up to 1 million TEUs.
