Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) paid P36.28 billion in claims and benefit in the first half of 2025, an increase of 19.62 percent from P30.33 billion in the same period last year.
HMOs made a collective profit of P1.47 billion, a whopping 131.12 percent increase from P636.6 million last year, the Insurance Commission said on Wednesday.
“Despite the big increase in the payout of healthcare benefits, the HMO industry continued its return to profitability due to higher revenues,” the Commission said.
HMO revenues amounted to P47.03 billion, an increase of 21.36 percent from P38.75 billion last year.
Total expenses including income tax rose by 19.53 percent to P45.56 billion, from P38.12 billion last year.
Of the business’ revenues, membership fees amounted to P45.79 billion, a 25.23 percent increase from P36.56 billion last year.
