The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has received a proposal for a 250 megawatt (MW) Gened-2 hydropower plant in Kabugao, Apayao.
In a notice, EMB said it will conduct a public hearing on October 19 on the environmental compliance certificate being applied for by the project’s developer.
The notice said the project is being developed by Pan Pacific Renewable Power Philippines Corp. for P21.86 billion. It will have a gross size of 158.3 million cubic meters.
Gened-2 is planned to be connected with the Gened-1 hydro power project also being developed by Pan Pacific Renewable in the same area.
The Gened-1 project has an installed capacity of 150MW with a reservoir storage of 158.3 million cubic meters and a capital cost of P19.8 billion.
The project is currently in the development stage under the Hydro Service Contract and has completed all necessary pre-development permit.
The project is also in the process of securing relevant construction permits and is under intensive negotiations with the potential engineering, procurement and construction contractor. -Jed Macapagal
