The Philippines generated $134 million in sales of Halal products with its participation in various expositions and exhibits in 2024, up 165 percent from $50.6 million generated in 2023, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.
Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal, program manager of the Task Force Halal Industry Development Program, said in a text message on Tuesday the sales were generated by Filipino companies in Halal expos held in Canada, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and in Manila, under the flagship Halal Expo Philippines 2024.
Guiappal did not provide the breakdown of the revenues but said the Philippines has been increasing its presence in Halal’s global and domestic markets, not just in the food sector but also in tourism, lifestyle and wellness.
“We already have Halal-certified kitchens in our five-star hotels and three-star hotels. These contribute to the improvement of our industry,” he said.
Guiappal added the DTI has been working closely with Halal certification bodies to ensure the integrity of the Philippines’ branding as a Halal-friendly country.
He also said the DTI has been assisting companies to certify their products and to participate in the expositions.
For 2025, the DTI has lined up major events to promote Halal products such as the Mindanao Halal Expo with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the third Travel Sale Expo, the 8th Philippine National Halal Conference, the Halal Expo Philippines 2025, among others.
Guiappal added the Philippines will continue to participate in Halal expositions in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Malaysia in 2025.
