Rooftop solar power plant developer Green Heat Corp. is keen on putting up at least 6 megawatts (MW) of solar projects this year after switching on a 1.3 MW facility in SM City Bacoor in Cavite last week.
“Despite this pandemic, we have planned to complete about 6 MW of solar rooftop at the minimum and a maximum of 12 MW this year. It will depend on the situation especially on the limitations of travel and work…,” said Roberto Martin, Green Heat general manager, in a virtual briefing last week.
Glenn Tong, company director, said more projects are in the pipeline with the SM Group.
The 1.3 MW rooftop solar facility in SM City Bacoor is the largest of its kind in the city, capable of generating a monthly average of 128,000 kilowatthours (kWh) of electrical energy which is enough to power 800 homes consuming an average of 160 kWh a month.
The project which maximized the use of 6,230 square meters of rooftop space with 3,114 solar panels will save the mall P10.3 million in electricity costs while reducing its dependence on grid power.
SM City Bacoor’s daily average power consumption is 1.6 MW.
Green Heat accounts for over 40 percent of solar rooftop installations in the Philippines, 85 percent of which are commercial installations while the rest are residential installations for a total portfolio of 14 MW peak or an aggregate of 228 gigawatt hours.
Some of its projects are in St. Peter Chapels Commonwealth, the Technological University of the Philippines Manila, Jesus Good Shepherd School in Imus, Cavite, the Asian Development Bank, Manuel L. Quezon University, the Department of Budget and Management, Asia Brewery, Inc., Meralco PV Center, St. Paul College Parañaque and St. Scholastica’s Academy-Marikina. – Jed Macapagal
