Grab Philippines is seen defending its leadership in the ride-hailing market by right-sizing its fleet to meet the rising demand and further expand services outside Metro Manila.

This as new entrants are stirring competition in the industry, giving commuters more options.

Grab Philippines, JoyRide and newly- accredited transport network company (TNC) US-based inDrive plan to further expand operation in key cities outside Metro Manila.

A fourth player, Angcars, is poised to enter the market

“Grab remains steadfast in its commitment to fair competition and compliance with regulatory standards, actively contributing to the growth and innovation of the industries it is present in,” Grab Philippines said.  “We will continue to right-size our fleet to meet the rising demand for ride hailing. Through a healthy equilibrium of supply and demand, we can maximize vehicle utilization on the road via ride-hailing.”

To achieve this, Grab said it continuously collaborates with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

“We’re continuously assessing the needs of various regions, cities, and municipalities across the Philippines. Our goal is to bring our services to more underserved areas, where residents can greatly benefit from improved mobility, delivery services, and digital financial solutions,” Grab said.

Last year, the company launched GrabCar in Mindanao, specifically in Davao and Cagayan De Oro.

“Firstly, in terms of geographic expansion, we’re continuously assessing the needs of various regions, cities, and municipalities across the Philippines. Our goal is to bring our services to more underserved areas, where residents can greatly benefit from improved mobility, delivery services, and digital financial solutions.

Our priority is to ensure that our partners can realize their optimum earnings potential on our platform. To achieve this, we are leveraging all available technology and product tools to enhance their productivity,” Grab said.

Aside from service improvement and expansion, Grab also introduced last year two new technologies geared towards its driver-partners: Driver Session enables driver-partners to stay within a predefined geographical area during periods of high passenger demand, and Personalized Alert, a push notification sent to offline driver-partners when specific areas are experiencing high passenger demand.

Last December,  Joyride Philippines unveiled its Super Taxi service in Metro Manila that enables commuters to hail a ride directly on the street or conveniently book a ride through the JoyRide Superapp. Joyride now has 25 Super Taxis.

New player Soft Corp., operator of California-based inDrive,   has secured TNC accreditation last December.

inDrive officially announced its plan to start commercial operation in Metro Manila within the first quarter and in five more key cities include Baguio, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, and Bacolod thereafter.
