The government plans to implement a monthly job fair not just in Metro Manila but also in the provinces to reach more jobseekers in the country, President Marcos Jr. said yesterday.

The President, during the Jobstreet Career Con 2025 held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, said at least 18,000 job seekers had registered for the two-day job fair which opened on January 28 and he is hoping that many of them are hired.

Marcos said if many of the applicants during the job fair get quality jobs, the government would push through with the planned monthly career expo that would be held in different parts of the country.

“If the results are good, we really plan to hold a similar fair every month, not just in the Manila but also in different places. And to avoid those in the provinces from going to Manila, the NCR, we will go to the provinces to accommodate those who want to apply,” he said in Filipino.

“If we see that many people land good jobs —- those that we call quality jobs — we would sustain this program so that many of our fellow Filipinos will get the chance to find good jobs for their livelihood, for their families and for the rest of the Philippines,” he added.

Marcos emphasized the importance of the job fairs where the government and the private sector come together to provide the public with employment and the companies with skilled and qualified workers.

The government is committed to help those seeking jobs and to reduce the country’s unemployment rate, he added.

He said the government provides upskilling and reskilling training to applicants to ensure that they qualify for the jobs and the demands of different industries.

The country’s unemployment rate stands at 3.2 percent as of November 2024.

During the event, Marcos invited jobseekers and visited employer booths organized by SEEK PH in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment–National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR), Pasay City’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the DOLE Bureau of Local Employment (BLE).

More than 100 companies participated in the event which aims to connect over 15,000 candidates to local and international employers.

Apart from the career opportunities, attendees were also able to benefit from additional services, such as resume clinics and career coaching sessions, as well as access government agencies like the Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Among the prominent companies during the job expo were SM Retail, Acquire, Philip Morris, Teletech, Techno Global Team, Flash Express, Cardinal Health, Accenture, Nestlé, Meralco, Petron, Metrobank, JPMorgan Chase and Federal Land, among others.
