President Marcos Jr. yesterday asked big businesses to continue supporting the government’s efforts to uplift and promote the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and nano enterprises in the country which collectively account for 99 percent of the current enterprises in the Philippines.
The President, at the launch of Kanegosyo Center of the Cebuana Lhuillier Group held at the Palacio de Memoria in Roxas boulevard, Parañaque City, said the MSMEs and nano enterprises even employ 63 percent of the labor force.
Marcos said the new coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has changed the world and had resulted in the sprouting of startup companies as well as small businesses or nano enterprises which “do not actually fall into any category of economic activity because they’re way below the radar.”
“These are the people that we are trying to help… We are trying to create an ecosystem for startups and that is really what we are trying to do. We are trying to help small businesses who have a good idea,” he said.
Marcos recognized initiatives such as the Kanegosyo Center of Cebuana Lhuillier which aims to orient and assist Filipinos in setting up simple businesses and improving the plight of MSMEs and the nano enterprises in the country.
He thanked the proponents behind the Kanegosyo Center saying this is “a program that brings many, many elements together and I am sure that if we continue to be committed to work hard and to be sensitive to the needs of the people… create that ecosystem for the small businesses to be able to thrive and hopefully turn small businesses into larger businesses as they go down the road,” he added.
