Globe Telecom Inc. has expanded the rollout of new technologies nationwide in the first quarter of this year to further improve both mobile and home internet services, the telco said on Wednesday.

As of March this year, Globe has extended its fifth generation (5G) coverage to 98.7 percent in Metro Manila and 97.97 percent in key cities across the Visayas and Mindanao, Globe said in a statement.

The coverage expansion was made possible with the addition of 235 new 5G sites that are now accommodating more than 9.5 million 5G devices across the country, the company said.

This development also makes high-speed internet available to more people nationwide, it said.

“We’re focused on making sure Filipinos get the best mobile experience possible,” Carl Cruz, Globe president and CEO, said in the same statement.

“This is about more than speed — it’s about making sure every Filipino, wherever they are, can tap into the future. It’s key to supporting future technologies like AI (Artificial Intelligence),” he said.

“And as the cost of 5G devices goes down, we want to make sure more people can access these advancements,” Cruz added.

In the first quarter of the year, Globe built 487 new cell towers and upgraded 3,940 existing ones with LTE technology, making sure its network stays strong even during high-volume hours.

Through its Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, or MIMO technology, Globe is offering faster and more stable internet connections in crowded areas.

Under the Connectivity Plan Task Force led by the Private Sector Advisory Council, Globe has switched on 600 new cell sites in geographically disadvantaged and isolated areas.

By the end of 2025, Globe aims to expand this to 700 cell sites as part of an industry-wide movement to close the digital gap and ensure that no Filipino is left offline.

“Connectivity is no longer a privilege, it’s a right,” Cruz said, adding: “Globe is working to make sure that right is protected, expanded, and felt in every home and every pocket in this country.”
