Globe Telecom Inc. and Dito Telecommunity Corp. (DITO) have interconnected their services on mobile and will soon do the same for fixed line.
In statement, Globe said its mobile subscribers can now make domestic mobile calls and send SMS to DITO subscribers and vice versa following the successful interconnection of services of the two telcos.
Interconnection among telco providers is in line with provisions for compulsory interconnection of authorized public telecommunications carriers under Republic Act 7925.
The law aims to create a universally accessible and fully integrated nationwide telecommunications network to encourage more infrastructure investments from the private sector that would benefit the consumers.
DITO started commercial operation early last month in 15 selected key cities in Visayas and Mindanao. he company recently announced the expansion in 21 more cities including in Luzon and hopefully in Metro Manila within second quarter this year.
Globe continues to aggressively build new sites to increase coverage, and upgrade existing sites to 4G LTE and 5G to provide better data experience to customers. Globe is also migrating its qualified home broadband customers using copper lines to fiber for free so that customers can enjoy improved speed and better quality of connectivity. – Myla Iglesias
