GCash has rolled out its services in 16 countries which account for more than 80 percent of the overseas Filipino workers’ remittances.

GCash is now available in 13 countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Japan, Germany, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

Soon, it will be available in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Singapore, said Paul Albano, GCash International general manager.

GCash intends to expand to more countries but these 16 countries already account for more than 80 percent of the remittances of Filipino kababayans, added Albano.

GCash is targeting the over 10 million OFW market with about P33.5 billion total remittances every year as reported by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

“Hopefully, we get all the 10 million into using GCash overseas which is the same GCash app except they only have local mobile numbers in the countries that they’re located,” Albano said in a press briefing.

With GCash Overseas, Filipinos can download and use the GCash app whether they have Philippine subscriber identity modules or local mobile phone numbers in the countries or territories where they live.

“With GCash now available beyond the Philippines, we are responding to the needs of global Filipinos in these cashless digital economies, providing them with a safe, secure, and efficient fintech solution to send money back home,” said Albano.

The availability of GCash in the 16 key markets worldwide allows overseas Filipinos to send money anytime, anywhere; pay bills and be in complete control of where the money is going, including household utilities, tuition and taxes, among others; and purchase mobile phone load for loved ones.

The Philippine fintech leader has also partnered with global payments platform Alipay+. With Global Pay, GCash is now a viable channel to pay over 3 million Alipay+-enabled merchants in 17 countries and territories around the world.

The company has also partnered with international payments giant Visa, providing GCash users with another cashless payment method outside of the Philippines. The new GCash Visa card offers another payment option anywhere in the world.

In a related development, Globe has installed 41 more fifth generation (5G) sites across Visayas and Mindanao in 2023 in line with its strategic rollout of the technology, as it continues to test for certain applications that will enable Filipinos across social classes.

Globe said it added 27 more sites in Visayas and 14 new ones in Mindanao last year, as part of its broader initiative to enhance digital connectivity in the areas of health, education, finance and entertainment.
