Globe Telecom Inc.’s mobile wallet service GCash is expanding the reach of its services abroad to allow overseas Filipino workers (OFW) to directly pay bills for their family, avail of load top-ups and transfer cash instantly.
GCash has over 33 million users in the Philippines and is extending that reach to Filipinos abroad, who will be able to pay bills, transfer money and tap financial services such as Save Money, GInvest and more.
To date, there are an estimated 10 million Filipinos abroad globally, of which 2.2 million are OFWs seeking to provide their families with better lives through foreign salaries, netting over P1.5 trillion in remittances to the Philippines in 2020.
GCash users can fund their electronic wallets through international partners including AlipayHK in Hong Kong, Remitly in the United States and Canada, Singtel Dash in Singapore, SABB in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, SBI Remit in Japan, Skrill in the United Kingdom, PayIt in United Arab Emirates, Wirebarley in South Korea, and Western Union and MoneyGram Worldwide.
In a related development, Globe also launched its internal mobile number portability (MNP) capability. This covers all postpaid to prepaid, prepaid to postpaid, and prepaid to prepaid customer movements within Globe and TM brands.
