The Department of Energy (DOE) said that all public and private road transport vehicles are now required to obtain Fuel Economy Label (FEL) and Fuel Economy Sticker (FES) as part of government’s efforts to promote energy and fuel efficiency.
DOE said yesterday the move is part of the Vehicle Fuel Economy Labelling Program (VFELP) wherein all transport vehicle manufacturers, importers, distributors, rebuilders, and/or builders must undergo company registration, covering both head offices and all branches in order for them to obtain such labels and stickers.
FEL is a removable label displaying essential fuel economy performance data while the FES is a prescribed fixed sticker that includes a QR code linking to detailed vehicle information and the vehicle Fuel Economy Performance Rating.
The dual-labeling system also bears the DOE logo and provides consumers with both readily accessible information and the ability to access more comprehensive data online.
The program also ensures fuel economy data are readily accessible and verified through the performance labeling requirements, with the assistance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Transportation at the point of sale.
“With VFELP, we’re putting the power of informed choice into the hands of Filipino consumers… Knowing your vehicle’s fuel efficiency is not just about saving money; it’s about building a sustainable future. Every drop of fuel or kilowatt saved, every gram of greenhouse gas emission reduced will make a real difference in the fight against climate change,” said Patrick Aquino, director at DOE’s Energy Utilization Management Bureau.
Aquino saidt the policy will not affect buyers of vehicles as the burden of the registration will be handled by car sellers and manufacturers.
DOE said registration of companies is valid for three years. Meanwhile, vehicle registration for each model or type of vehicle offered by registered companies is valid for six years.
