Fort Pilar Energy Inc. continues to ramp up its power assets after acquiring the 28.59 megawatts (MW) Alterpower Digos Solar Inc. (ADSI) solar power plant in Digos, Davao from the joint venture of Hanhwa Global Asset Corp. and Alterpower Specialist Inc. for P1.5 billion.
Fort Pilar Energy is planning to expand the facility to up to 40 MW.
Sheila Romero, Fort Pilar Energy chairperson, said the company is allotting P500 million to finance the expansion of the plant to also include an upgrade of its electrical systems and installation of more powerful solar panels.
Romero said the project’s location is considered a prime area for solar irradiation with a rate of 1,872.4 kilowatt hour per square meter.
Fort Pilar Energy Inc. is currently building a battery energy storage system in Zamboanga city with its site set to be commissioned in February 2022.
Last May, Fort Pilar Energy through subsidiary, Belgrove Power Corp. was declared the winner for the privatization of the 650 MW Malaya thermal power plant and its underlying land in Rizal with an offer of P3.12 billion.
Having completed the payment last month, Belgrove is authorized to conduct an extensive assessment of the facility and pursue all its plans for the plant. – Jed Macapagal
