Fish unloading volume across all regional fish ports increased 5.7 percent in December 2023 to 47,952.79 metric tons (MT) from 45,355.24 MT in the same month in 2022, according to the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA).
PFDA said total fish unloading volume for that month is 3.6 percent lower compared to November 2023’s 49,718.43 MT, the highest recorded for the year.
The agency said the lower unloading volume is due to the implementation of closed fishing seasons in several areas the prior month.
The data captured in the PFDA’s monitoring are from ports in Bulan in Sorsogon; Sual in Pangasinan; General Santos; Davao; Zamboanga; Lucena in Quezon Province; Iloilo; and Navotas.
