San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is increasing the production of 70-percent ethyl alcohol while Tanduay Distillers Inc. has started the production of ethyl alcohol.
SMC said it is increasing its production of 70 percent ethyl alcohol – used as a disinfectant and sanitizer – to 100,000 liters per day in order to address the needs in the field against COVID-19.
Ramon Ang, San Miguel president, said the company has activated all the facilities of its liquor arm Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) to produce alcohol round-the-clock nationwide.
The company has donated 29,300 liters of 70 percent ethyl alcohol to 77 hospitals throughout Metro Manila,as well as the Department of Health (DOH) crisis centers, local government units, law enforcement agencies, and other vital institutions.
Bulk of alcohol production is being done at GSMI’s Cabuyao plant in Laguna; with other GSMI facilities producing the same rubbing alcohol – Ginebra plants in Mandaue, Cebu; Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan; Destileria Bago in Negros Occidental, Cauayan, Isabela, and Ligao, Albay.
Lucio Tan-led Tanduay said its unit Absolut Distillers Inc. (ADI) has started the production of ethyl alcohol which are being distributed to the DOH and other hospitals.
Tanduay as part of the LT Group donated the first batch of 5,000 4-liter bottles to the DOH, and gave another 5,000 bottles to other non-government organizations for distribution in medical facilities.
The LT Group has several distilleries in the country, such as Absolut Distillers, Inc. in Lian, Batangas and Asian Alcohol in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.
