The country’s hosting of the FIBA World Cup 2023 boosted visitor arrivals and hotel occupancy, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Based on the report by the DOT National Capital Region Office, all nine FIBA official hotels in the region –where most of the FIBA official venues were located–saw a higher average hotel occupancy from August 25 to September 12.
The DOT said average occupancy of Conrad Manila was 100 percent; Hotel101-Manila and Microtel MOA both 92 percent; Hilton Manila, 91.8 percent; TRYP MOA 91 percent and; Grand Hyatt Manila in Taguig, 96 percent.
The DOT’s Statistics, Economic Analysis and Information Management Division in a report said visitor arrivals from 10 of the 20 countries with FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 participating teams registered a growth rate of more than 100 percent for the period July 1 to September 12 compared to the same period in 2022.
These include Dominican Republic (700 percent); Latvia (600 percent), China (595.85 percent); Lithuania (444.58 percent); and Serbia (429.07 percent).
The DOT supported the hosting by helping promote the sporting event. In conducted training sessions on the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence for close to 500 FIBA World Cup 2023 volunteers.
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority enhanced key areas, including airports, competition venues, as well as non-competition venues including official hotels, practice gyms, and fan zones. – Irma Isip
