FDC Utilities Inc. (FDCUI) subsidiary FDC Green Energy Corp. on August 14 broke ground for its 20.75 megawatts (MW) Misamis solar power project.

The company said the project has an estimated cost of P700 million and is targetted for completion by the second quarter of next year.

The project was awarded by the Department of Energy with a 25-year solar energy operating contract and involves the installation of over 34,000 monocrystalline solar panels that can generate approximately 30,450 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually.

The company said since the project will be strategically located within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate, it benefits from optimal conditions for solar energy generation due to the flat terrain, high solar yield and proximity to a substation.

FDCUI said the area represents a unique opportunity to establish a renewable energy hub in Mindanao.

The project is also seen generating over 200 jobs during the construction and maintenance phases.

“This significant milestone marks the beginning of a transformative journey toward achieving a balanced energy portfolio for the Filinvest Group… We aim to boost our renewable energy capacity in the coming years, underscoring our unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Juan Eugenio Roxas, FDC Green president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
