Globe Telecom Inc. sees faster rollout of fifth generation (5G) technology in the country.

Speaking at the 5G Growth Goals roundtable discussion during the Bloomberg Qatar Economic Forum, Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said that difficulties in putting up cell sites in the past has affected the deployment of 5G.

However, Cu said it is much easier to build now with the new laws that were crafted during the pandemic. Adding a new layer of technology on the same infrastructure and the same towers also helps Globe offload 4G LTE into 5G.

Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) issued Department Order No. 29 lifting the ban on the construction of critical infrastructure particularly cell sites along national roads. This is another important win for the industry as telco players in the country ramp up infrastructure builds. Globe’s aggressive network builds and network modernization to 4G LTE and 5G have resulted in improved services to its customers nationwide.
