Fabian damage reaches P533M

Damage to agriculture due to Typhoon Fabian and the habagat has reached P533.54 million, according to the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) disaster risk reduction and mitigation operations center.

The DA said as of 8 a.m. yesterday, the damage affected 22,516 farmers with volume of production loss at 9,511 metric tons (MT) in 30,926 hectares of agricultural areas in Cordillera, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Western Visayas.

Affected commodities include rice, corn, high value crops and livestock.

The DA said prior to the heavy rains, 2,398 hectares of rice have been harvested in Cagayan, Central Luzon and Calabarzon with an equivalent production of 12,649 MT amounting to P227.94 million.

The DA also assured movement of agri-fishery commodities remains normal as there have been no reported damage on road networks and bridges that can affect accessibility and mobility of food supplies. – Jed Macapagal
