President Marcos Jr. yesterday ordered the Department of Agriculture (DA) to continue its P29 Rice-for-All program and to increase the number of Kadiwa ng Pangulo centers to ensure continued access to affordable rice.

The President, in a social media post, said the DA and the Department of Budget and Management have been directed to expand the P29 Rice-for-All program which was launched in August following the pilot implementation in July.

The President also ordered the increase in the number of Kadiwa ng Pangulo centers from 21 to 300 by mid-2025.

The DA said the Kadiwa centers sold “good quality rice” at P29 per kilo to disadvantaged sectors such as indigents, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and solo parents while P45 per kilo are sold to other sectors.

The President also asked local government units to buy palay directly from the local farmers to enable them to receive fair prices for their hard work, and secure a steady supply of rice for everyone.

Marcos also directed the Department of Finance and the National Economic and Development Authority to address the rising input costs and climate impacts that affect food prices.

“This is a united effort to support our farmers and keep rice prices within reach for every Filipino family,” he said.

The President issued the directives amid the rise in inflation to 2.3 percent in October from 1.9 percent in September. It is lower than the 4.9 percent inflation in October 2023.
