ERC approves Meralco’s P410M projects

THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the capital expenditure application of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) for six projects with a total cost of P410 million.

According to the regulatory filing promulgated on May 12, the lion’s share will go to the

expansion of the 115 kilovolts (kV) to 34.5 kV of the Bagbaguin substation in Valenzuela City worth P162,580,219.

The project is expected to improve load capacity in the area. It will enable for the company to accept more customers as well as avert possible power interruptions in Valenzuela, Caloocan and Quezon City.

The installation of the 34.5 kV metal clad switchgear at the Dasmariñas 83 megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer bank 1 in Cavite will cost P68 million. 161,085. This will augment its capacity to serve customers in the area.

The Pinagbuhatan switching station in Pasig is allocated P55,223,814.33 so shopping malls in the area will be assured of capable power lines.

The replacement of power transformer number 2 in the Mandaluyong substation, pegged at P52.91 million is meant to deliver quality voltage to customers as well as provide flexible tying configuration of feeders and load balancing of malls located in Mandaluyong and Pasig.

The acquisition of a spare 83 MVA worth P46 million  was also allowed by the ERC to give Meralco a ready replacement in case such equipment in its service area bogs down.

Lastly, the rebuilding of portions of the 115 kV line from Dasmariñas to First Cavite Industrial Estate is allocated P25 million  to augment capacity as well as provide operational flexibility and reliability of subtransmission system in the entire Cavite.
