The government will issue an executive order (EO) that will further strengthen and increase the confidence in franchising business models in the country.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said at the opening of the Franchise Asia Conference and Expo yesterday President Duterte will issue an EO that will establish a registry system of franchising industry players.

Lopez said the EO will also set a clear template of franchise terms and conditions of the franchisee and franchisor arrangements.

These initiatives are meant to ensure the viability of franchises, weed out scams and fly-by-night operations and set standards in establishing franchises.

“We have been working with (the Philippine Franchise Association or PFA) to finalize the draft EO,” Lopez said.

Franchise Asia Philippines overall chair Carl Balita said the PFA has created a roadmap to help ignite the recovery of the franchise sector and prepare it for the future of franchising.

PFA chair Richard Sanz said the group has been investing in training to assist members to pivot and adjust to the new normal such as digitalization.

Sanz said capacity-building activities of PFA will help its members deal with the disruptions brought by the pandemic.

“We believe in equipping the Philippine franchising sector — especially PFA members — to meet challenges and seize opportunities of our ever-changing world,” he added.

PFA has been unceasing in its calls to hasten the vaccination program just as it has been appealing for the easing of mobility restrictions.
