THE Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said it has completed the second phase of electrical system upgrades at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 which guarantees stable power supply in the terminal.

The series of scheduled electrical upgrades started on April 2 and the final segment of power-related maintenance activity was concluded at 3 a.m. on May 28.

This allowed MIAA to complete the replacement of deteriorated medium-voltage switchgear components across eight different electrical substations within Terminal 3.

“These electrical upgrades…guarantee a more dependable electrical system for the Terminal. We are, however, mindful of some issues in a specific area of the terminal as a result of this upgrade and we will continue to work on these until they are fully resolved,” Eric Ines, MIAA general manager, said in a statement.

During the electrical upgrades, MIAA’s generator sets provided power to the Terminal giving priority to critical equipment and facilities to ensure continuous passenger processing and uninterrupted flight operations.

There was, however, observable lack of lighting in some parts of the terminal, particularly the curbsides, hallways and roadways.

Meanwhile, NAIA’s operation is expected to significantly improve starting September once the San Miguel Corp.-led New NAIA Infra Corp. takes over the operation of the country’s premier terminal.
