Listed engineering and construction firm EEI Corp. said on Monday it has won the design-and-build contract for the P15.7 billion Philippine International Exhibition Center (PIEC).
PIEC is a government project that is intended to help position the country as a premiere destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) in Asia.
In a regulatory filing, the company said it had already received a notice of award from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the project, valued at P15.7 billion.
PIEC will rise in Pasay Harbor City, the newly reclaimed island on Manila Bay. It will have a gross exhibition area of 269,000 square meters (sqm), making it the largest exhibition and convention center in Southeast Asia.
“The PIEC is a massive project that is poised to make a meaningful contribution to the economy,” Henry Antonio, EEI chief executive officer (CEO) and president, said.
“It marks a pivotal milestone for all of us in EEI, and we are honored and excited to support the government in bringing this vision to life, “ he added.
EEI said that the PIEC is a “key infrastructure project that supports the government’s commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the country’s MICE sector.”
Its construction is expected to contribute to trade promotion, tourism development, foreign investments, and economic development, according to the company.
Phase 1 of the project will include detailed engineering and design, foundation, and architectural and structural work for the PIEC.
