The Department of Transportation (DOTr) expects a surge in passenger volume at the EDSA Busway system this Holy Week as the operations of the railways in Metro Manila will be suspended for their annual maintenance.
In a virtual briefing, Mark Steven Pastor, DOTr undersecretary, said the third phase of the Service Contracting Program was launched yesterday with an initial deployment of 550 buses in the Edsa Busway system that provides free ride to commuters. More routes and public utility vehicles (PUV) are expected to operate to serve passengers in other parts of the country.
DOTr announced the suspension of operations this week of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 , Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1, LRT-2 and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) to give way for their thorough annual maintenance.
MRT-3 and LRT-2 have no operations from April 13 to 17, while LRT-1 has no operation from April 14 until 17, and will resume on Monday, April 18.
PNR’s operations are suspended from April 15 and 16 and will resume on April 17.
