Employers on Wednesday issued three resolutions that will address the interconnected challenges posed by the green, digital, and social transitions that the Philippines is experiencing.
The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) concluded its 46th National Conference of Employers with a call for the government to work with business and other private sector organizations in developing and implementing appropriate policies, strategies, and programs that will address these challenges.
The group also vowed to intensify its advocacy for a sustainable future by promoting policies for ethical and responsible business conduct of all employers in the Philippines.
ECOP also committed to pursuing education and training strategies to prepare the workers and the youth for the changing workplace while ensuring adherence to the principles of bipartism, tripartism, and social dialogue.
ECOP, marking its 50th anniversary, vowed to continue to collaborate with the government and social partners in implementing strategies and programs that will support and protect employers and workers from extreme climate, technological, social, and geopolitical disruptions.
“Global warming and climate change have increased the frequency and severity of weather disturbances in the Philippines,” ECOP stated.
Technological developments, particularly in Artificial Intelligence, might soon edge out humans in most tasks, putting workers’ jobs at risk now, more than ever, it added.
The demographic shift is disrupting the population structure and the labor market, and adversely affecting economic development,” ECOP said in the document containing the resolutions.
The group noted the crucial role of government in shaping a more sustainable future for the next generation of Filipinos, and that it must lead the initiatives to mitigate the negative impacts of environmental degradation, technological advancements, and shifting demographics.
