DTT devices sales to improve

GMA Network Inc. has seen a decline in the sales of its digital terrestrial television (DTT) devices this year but is optimistic this will increase by next year as the economy recovers.

As of early December this year, GMA said the sales of its digital set-up boxes, GMA affordable box, fell 26 percent to 740,000 units versus last year’s a little less than one million units.

The mobile DTT device, GMA Now, which is a plug-and-play dongle launched in February this year, sold 31,000 units — significantly lower than the half a million target for the year.

“What affected the sales was the lockdown and quarantine because the GMA Now device… (is a device) on the go, but we are still optimistic that its sales will be on track as people can leave their homes and as the economy recovers (in 2022),” Felipe Gozon, GMA chairman and chief executive officer, said.
