The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has dismissed the petition of JG Summit Olefins Corp. (JGSOC) for the imposition of safeguard measures on imported resins, finding no increase in volumes that caused injury to the company.
In Department Administrative Order No. 22-05 Series of 2022 dated June 3, DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez adopted the recommendation of the Tariff Commission which found that no definitive general safeguard measure should be imposed on importations of the linear low density polyethylene pellets and granules (LLDPE) pellets and granules during the period of investigation on 2015 to June 2021.
JGSOC is the country’s sole producer of LLDPE pellets and granules used for film applications.
“Since it has been established that LLDPE pellets and granules were not imported in increased quantities (whether absolute or relative to domestic production) during the POI, the determination of serious injury or threat thereof, causation, and unforeseen developments has become moot and academic,” the DTI said.
Considering that, LLDPE pellets and granules were not imported in increased quantities (whether absolute or relative to domestic production) during the POI, the Commission in a report also dated June 3, said it terminated its formal investigation on the petition.
