THE Department of Transportation (DOTr), in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), on Thursday officially launched an online driver’s license renewal system (ODLRS) through eGOV app.

It is part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s order to digitize government transactions through improving online accessibility of services.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the establishment of the online renewal system, which is now integrated with the eGovPH app, will prevent the public from dealing with fixers, allowing motorists to renew their driver’s licenses without being physically present at the LTO office.

“The President has directed the DICT and DOTr to make the processes involving the frontline agencies like LTO more accessible and easier for the general public,” Dizon said during the launch on Thursday, July 10.

He added that through the LTO system, the five steps of the driver’s license renewal will be easily completed including the medical examination and payment.

The new system allows drivers to renew their licenses entirely online, and the drivers no longer need to visit an LTO branch or worry about misplacing their license cards.

Once renewed, their license appears directly in the eGov app and can be accessed anytime whether online or offline, LTO said.

LTO said the electronic driver’s license stored in the app is now considered valid and equivalent to the physical license card.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said that the eGovPH-generated electronic or e-driver’s license is valid in case the physical card is unavailable, adding this will be cascaded among enforcement agencies for implementation.

During the launch, an applicant renewed his driver’s license using the new system, which is powered by the eGovPH’s one-stop-shop app.

As of end June this year, eGovPH Super App has reached more than 13 million users, a 44 percent jump from 9 million recorded as of end-2024 according to DICT.

Since eGovPH’s launch, the app has facilitated over 150 million transactions, consolidating essential services from both national and local agencies.
