In a move to end years of delays in vehicle registration and license plate issuance, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday, July 22, unveiled the Plate Registration Management Information System (PRMIS)—a digital platform designed to ensure the faster, hassle-free release of license plates for motorists.

The PRMIS allows motorists to receive their Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration (OR/CR) and license plates within a maximum of three days.

In a statement, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said motorists no longer have to wait months or even years to obtain their license plates and OR/CR for their vehicles.

Dizon explained that the new system is part of the extensive digitalization efforts of the DOTr and its attached agencies, aimed at providing faster and more convenient services to the public.

“To motorists: You can get your license plates in a maximum of three days,” Dizon said.

“Before, our countrymen had to wait years for their license plates and OR/CR. Now, it’s much faster,” he added.

The DOTr and LTO have committed to working with car dealerships to expedite the release of license plates for motorists, Dizon said.

He urged car dealerships to help motorists receive their license plates on the same day.

“We will roll this out nationwide in the coming days,” he said.

The government has resolved the 11-year backlog of motorcycle plates, noting that 5.4 million MC plates have been produced and will be distributed to LTO district offices nationwide.
