THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has opened the bidding for the P253 million contract to design and construct Phase 1 of the rehabilitation of EDSA Busway stations, a project scheduled for completion within one year.

In a document published on its website on April 29, the DOTr invited firms to join the bidding for the project. Bidding documents will be available for purchase by interested parties from April 29 to May 19, 2025.

Under the contract, after a notice is issued by next month for the contractor to proceed, the first three months will cover the design phase, and the building phase for next nine months.

Winning bidder known by May 19

A pre-bid conference will be held on May 7, 2025 at the DOTr office in Ortigas. The winning bidder is expected to be announced on May 19.

The EDSA Busway stations’ rehabilitation phase I covers the four existing Busway stations, including Monumento,  Bagong Barrio, Guadalupe, and North Avenue.

To ensure the quality of the station’s rehabilitation, the project will be designed and built to align with the architectural character, features, and standards of the SM North EDSA Concourse and Busway Station—a model that reflects the DOTr’s design parameters and performance specifications.

“The contractor shall ensure that the final design  and completed works align with the established aesthetic, structural, and functional standards, maintaining consistency with the overall vision for the rehabilitation of the EDSA Busway stations,” DOTr said.

177,000 daily commuters

In 2024, the EDSA busway was used by over 63 million commuters. In January 2025 alone, it served more than 5.5 million passengers, averaging 177,000 daily commuters, the department said.

The EDSA busway is seen as crucial for a progressive public transportation system, with 23 stations operating 24/7,  affording commuters a safe and reliable option for transport, DOTr added.
