The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to open bids this month for four major airport development projects worth a combined P962 million, aimed at upgrading runways and airside facilities across key regional hubs.

The DOTr held a pre-bid conference yesterday and scheduled the submission and opening of bids for September 15. Two bidders—BM Marketing and Hi-Tri Dragonhart Corp.—attended the virtual conference, according to the agency.

· Busuanga Airport (P661.4M): Construction and concreting of a new 45-meter-wide runway and a 150-meter-wide runway strip.

· Borongan Airport (P50.6M): Installation of a box culvert and grouted canal to improve airside infrastructure in Eastern Visayas.

· Camiguin Airport (P175M): Correction of the runway centerline slope profile in Northern Mindanao.

· Puerto Princesa Airport (P75.7M): Continuation of asphalt overlay works on the runway.

Last July, the DOTr also initiated bidding for detailed engineering design studies of two major regional airports: the New Zamboanga International Airport and the New Dumaguete Airport in Bacong, Negros Oriental.

These studies represent a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize aviation infrastructure beyond Metro Manila, aiming to enhance the passenger experience, boost tourism, and support regional economic growth.

The New Zamboanga Airport is expected to replace the existing facility and serve as a key gateway for Western Mindanao. Meanwhile, the New Dumaguete Airport is projected to expand its annual passenger capacity from 800,000 to 2 million, significantly improving air traffic in Western Visayas.

Later this year, the DOTr will also bid out the operation and maintenance of six airports: Davao International, Siargao, Laoag International, Tacloban, Bacolod, and Busuanga.
